Yavapai County Jails

OVERVIEW: Operation of a safe and secure jail is one of the most important roles of county government. The Board of Supervisors provides funding for and the Yavapai County Sheriff operates the county jail (located in Camp Verde), as well as a temporary holding facility in Prescott.

FUNDING: Funds to operate the Yavapai County Jail come from two primary sources – a jail district sales tax, and the county general fund. The Jail District’s sales tax, which must be used for jail purposes, provides about half of the $18 million necessary to operate the jail. The other half comes from the county general fund, which is raised primarily by county property taxes.
